Frequently Asked Questions

How many hours should I spend on the course?

It is up to you; however, we suggest 3 - 4 hours per week.

Will I receive anything for completing the course?

Yes. Everyone who successfully completes the course will receive a Learn Moodle completer certificate.

How can I make the deadlines and session times display in my region's timezone?

To be sure you see deadlines and session times in the correct timezone for your region you need to:

  1. click the small arrow top right of the screen by your name and profile picture;
  2. click Preferences;
  3. click Edit profile;
  4. scroll down to Timezone and choose your timezone;
  5. scroll to the bottom of the page and click the 'Update profile' button.

What can I do if I am unable to attend the live sessions?

Don't worry! The sessions are recorded and will be available shortly after the sessions end. You can view them in the Live session recordings. 

I'm an experienced Moodle user. What will this course teach me?

The course is designed for teachers new to Moodle and covers just the basics. However, it also provides the opportunity for experienced Moodlers to explore new features in the latest version of Moodle and to help out in the forums. Please keep your responses simple and focused on the question and avoiding mention of third-party plugins. If you have any advanced questions, please ask them on the moodle.org forums.

I have a question about Moodle administration, hosting or development. Can you help?

The course is designed for teachers new to Moodle and covers just the basics. For any other questions, please ask on the moodle.org forums or look in the Moodle documentation.

What about users whose first language is not English?

Course activities are in English but you are welcome to start forum discussions in your own language and encourage others to reply to you and form a learning community. All video tutorials have English subtitles and many have subtitles in other languages.

When will this Learn Moodle course be run again?

The course is run many times a year. Our next Learn Moodle Basics course will be announced shortly.

Can I make a copy of my practice course?

You are welcome to make a backup of your practice course, as described in day 4. You can then restore it to your own Moodle site. Two weeks after the end of the course, all practice courses will be deleted from the site, so make sure you back up your course in good time!

Can I have a backup of this Learn Moodle course to use in my organisation?

We don't offer a backup of this course but you are welcome to make use of the Moodle documentation and to link to or embed the video tutorials from our Moodle HQ YouTube channel.

How long do I have to finish the course?

You will have one further week after the course ends to complete all activities in the course and receive a Learn Moodle completer badge and a certificate.

How can I leave the course?

Unenrol link

You can unenrol yourself at any time from the Learn Moodle Basics course (and any other course on the site) by clicking the gear menu top right and then clicking to unenrol yourself as in the screenshot.

Can I print the books out?

Yes. You can print the whole book or a chapter. Click into a book and click the gear menu top right. Make your choice as in the screenshot:

How are the videos made?

The videos are made using a program called Camtasia. 

Can I use your videos in my organisation's Moodle site?

Yes. Please give credit to Moodle HQ on the page you display them.

When will this course run again?

The date of the next Learn Moodle Basics MOOC will be announced shortly.
